Refreshing Older Vinyl Siding

The preparation photos show the original lighter siding alongside sections already receiving the new gray finish. The completed photos show a more uniform exterior appearance, with the gray siding contrasting with the home’s white trim and railings.

This project focused on repainting the existing vinyl siding. A coating project starts with the condition of that siding: painting changes its appearance, while damaged or unstable panels need to be assessed separately.

Power Washing and Surface Preparation

Our work began with power washing, followed by preparation before painting. Cleaning and preparation are essential parts of an exterior painting scope, especially when working with older siding.

The project photos also show masking around windows during application. Protecting adjacent surfaces helps keep the spray work focused on the intended siding areas.

Sherwin-Williams Emerald and VinylSafe® Colors

For this project, we used Sherwin-Williams Emerald with a VinylSafe® color formulation and a Low Lustre finish. VinylSafe is a color selection system for vinyl siding, rather than a separate paint product.

Sherwin-Williams lists Emerald among the coatings that can be used with its VinylSafe color palette. For another home, the product and color must be selected for the actual substrate and the manufacturer’s requirements. Learn about Sherwin-Williams VinylSafe colors.

Spray Application and the Finished Result

We applied the coating with spray equipment across the siding. The completed side and entry views show the finished gray exterior from different angles, while the before-and-after comparison highlights the change in appearance.

The Low Lustre finish gives the siding a subtle sheen. The refreshed color also complements the dark roof and the existing white exterior details.

Can Your Vinyl Siding Be Painted?

If your siding looks faded or you want a different exterior color, an assessment can help determine whether repainting is a suitable option. We review its condition, the preparation needed, access to upper areas and the proposed coating before defining the work.

Every home has a different scope. This project does not establish a fixed price, timeline or number of coats for other homes; those details belong in your written estimate.
