From Stained Wood to White Trim and Doors
The home’s stained woodwork had a warm, traditional appearance. Changing the trim and doors to white gave those details a cleaner, lighter presence throughout the spaces shown in the project photos.
In the living room, the before-and-after comparison highlights the change from brown crown molding to white. The finished entry doors, door casings and baseboards carry that fresh look into the adjoining rooms.
Preparation and Oil-Based Primer
We prepared the previously stained trim and doors before applying an oil-based primer. This priming step was part of the transition from the existing stained finish to the new painted finish.
Preparation matters when changing woodwork from stain to paint. The existing finish needs to be assessed and the preparation and primer selected for the surface. For this project, the specified primer was oil-based; the finished coating was Benjamin Moore Regal Select.
Benjamin Moore Regal Select in White Semi-Gloss
The trim and doors included in this project were finished with white semi-gloss Benjamin Moore Regal Select. The white color creates a crisp border around doorways and windows, while the semi-gloss finish gives the woodwork a subtle shine.
The photos show how the white woodwork complements the home’s existing wall colors, hardwood floors and furnishings. The change keeps the familiar character of the rooms while making them feel clearer and more refreshed.
A Brighter and More Beautiful Interior
The finished white crown molding draws the eye along the ceiling line. White door frames and baseboards connect the rooms visually, and the painted doors create a more consistent appearance at the entry and around the home.
This project shows the difference that trim and door painting can make. Updating the woodwork helped the home feel brighter and more inviting, with crisp white details throughout the finished spaces.
